Les Misérables “Scores On Doors”

SCORES ON DOORS

Having seen the stage show on broadway a few times I was going into the movie
already a tune to the musical numbers and familiar with the stories characters, this
helped but in fairness would not stop one enjoying this big screen adaption of
Les Misérables. The performances from Jackman, Hathaway & Crowe were all
top notch each showing sides of their acting prowess that are rarely displayed,
Jackman & Hathaway have been recently rewarded by the Academy with Oscar
nominations for their respective roles. Tom Hooper manages to capture the time
beautifully with sprawling set pieces & unusual camera angles.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable movie experience, that will have you singing
along, weeping in anguish & cheering for victory – I would highly recommend 8/10

Top 12 Movies of 2012

THEHOBBIT

1. THE HOBBIT

Based on the 1937 novel by J.R.R. Tolkien and brought to the screen by Peter Jackson
The Hobbit tells the tale of Bilbo Baggins and his companions, 13 Dwarves led by
the mighty Thorin Oakenshield in a Middle Earth adventure
set 60 years before The Lord Of The Rings.

CABININTHEWOODS

2. THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

From director Drew Goddard & co-written by Joss Whedon comes The Cabin In The Woods.
The movie follows five friends who travel to a remote cabin to have some fun, the
laughter soon turns to screams in one of the most original horror movies for many a year.

THERAID

3. THE RAID : REDEMPTION

Holy Bruce Lee! If you like your martial art movies bloody & violent then take a look at
Gareth Evans The Raid, it’s one hell of a ride. Iko Uwais (Rama) is a rookie cop going with 20
other cops to an apartment block where one serious bad ass crime lord hangs out
the order is to take him out!

MOONRISEKINGDOM

4. MOONRISE KINGDOM

Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom co-written by Roman Coppola and starring Bruce Willis,
Bill Murray, Edward Norton & old faithful Jason Schwartzman. Wes Anderson’s style of filmmaking
is unlike any other, he’s incredible and this movie is his best to date – a beautiful heartwarming tale.

SKYFALL

5. SKYFALL

James Bond is back with Skyfall one of his best adventures in recent years. Sam Mendes gets
the best out of Daniel Craig in his third outing as the British Secret Agent, Mendes makes full use
of the Movie Locations starting with Istanbul & ending in Scottish Highlands – truly spectacular!

AVENGERS

6. THE AVENGERS

Joss Whedon has done what many predicted as the impossible, he has brought The Avengers to
the big screen & done such a good job that we all can’t wait for the sequel. Seen this on the IMAX
and it truly blew me away, a towering action packed superhero movie – loved every minute!

CLOUDATLAS

7. CLOUD ATLAS

Cloud Atlas is one of them truly confusing movies that you just can’t stop watching. I was in
awe at the costume design, great acting, and overall story telling from the filmaking duo –
this is a great cinematic experience that you just can’t stop thinking about!

PERKSOFBEINGAWALLFLOWER

8. THE PERKS OF BEING A WALL FLOWER

This movie was the surprise package of 2012, reminding me of a John Hughes picture
from the 80’s. Stephen Chbosky wrote and directed this wonderful story, just don’t go
into this thinking it’s just another high school flick, it centers on some important
social issues – real, emotional, yet fun!

TROUBLEWITHTHECURVE

9. TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE

Another surprise package Trouble With The Curve follows an ageing baseball scout who
develops sight issues, having to rely on the help of his daughter to scout a player one last time.
Although this movie is not directed by Clint Eastwood his acting is a pure delight,
he owns every scene he is in – truly wonderful!

DARKKNIGHTRISES

10. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The final movie in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy seeing our superhero Batman up against
a new type of enemy Bane played brilliantly by Tom Hardy. In my opinion this is Nolan’s third best
Batman flick behind Batman Begins and Dark Knight but it’s still great cinema!

AMAZINGSPIDERMAN

11. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

“Oh how I hate movie remakes” i’ve been accused of muttering that was until June 2012
when I first clapped eye’s on Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield
and boy was I blown away, the thrilling action scenes & the dark mood I sensed throughout
had my spidey senses tingling for the sequel!

SAVAGES1111

12. SAVAGES

After a couple of average Oliver Stone movies – Wall Street 2 & W I am delighted to
say that The Stone is back and with a bang. Savages is a terrific, dark, violently graphic
movie following a Pot Growing Love Triangle, a Crooked Cop and a Drug Lord
all making for a damn good thriller!

Movies that nearly made the Top 12:
Looper, Battleship, Lawless, The Grey, Flight, Lincloln,
Jack Reacher, Snow White & Huntsman, Chronicle

Movies not seen as yet in 2012 include:
Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Argo, Wreck it Ralph, Amour
