Set in the 1930’s Paris, a young orphan lives
in a train station after his father dies and
uncle who works at the station disappears.

Hugo played wonderfully by Asa Butterfield,
lives in the walls of the station, taking on his
uncles mantel in maintaining the clocks, and
stealing food when needed from the many
stalls on the stations ground level. The only
thing in Hugo’s possession is a broken
automaton (a robot), that his father found &
had been trying to fix before his sudden death.

One day out stealing some food, Hugo stumbles
across an old man named Georges Melies
who runs a Toy Shop in the station, Georges
has a story to tell & like it or not, Hugo with
the help of Georges god-daughter Isabelle
will discover the secret behind the
Toy Shop Owner.

One of the greatest visionaries of our time,
Martin Scorsese creates a wonderful family
movie, it’s a movie that sits snug in the
middle of Scorsese’s collection of  classics,
it’s essentially a movie about the love of
film, honour and a small boy named Hugo.

I watched Hugo in 2D and was totally
engrossed, the performances from the two
child actors and Sacha Baron Cohen’s
quirky inspector were delightful, and Oscar
winner Ben Kingsley’s portrayal of the
disgruntled Toy Shop owner Georges Melies
was one of the actor’s best in years.
